Construction Bootcamp Fall 2020!
Sierra College hosted their tuition-free bootcamp again this fall! The bootcamp had 8 graduates and were able to see all the facets of residential and commercial construction. A huge thank you to our trade participants: Winsol Groundworks, Royal Electric, Concrete Value Corp, MarketOne Builders, Villara, Alcal, Sherman-Loehr Tiling, Interior Logic Group, WECA and Cosentino Surfaces.
Read what a recent graduate had to say about the program:
"I really like the course started from OSHA 10 Safety class. It helps me understand how to work safe on the construction environment. The teacher, Mr. Louie Garcia, is a great teacher. He was so professional. I have not seen any other teacher who has such a high level of enthusiasm, passion, and humor.
I feel the hand-on learning help me better understand the skills that I was learning. We had so many opportunities to do different work during the entire program. Hand-on really makes the program more practical and meaningful. In addition, I learned “work smarter” is more important than “work hard” by going through different hand-on practices.
The course covers a lot of subject such as carpentry, electrician, concrete, HVAC, plumbing, solar, tile work, and insulating. We learn all the knowledges and skills in these areas. Also, we learned how to use different appropriate tools for different jobs. We have a very good overview of all facets of construction. It is one of the unique programs that let us expose and learn from different perspectives.
The field trips were fun and useful. We had opportunities to visit major construction companies and be able to see how they do business and operate. We observed industrial, commercial, and residential constructions. We were able to visit new construction site and saw how they pour concrete. We were able to visit such companies as Villara, Market one, CVC, and Cosentino.
The most important reason for me to join the program is to find a good job. The program teaches us to prepare our resumes and practiced mock interview with companies wanted to hire us. They also invited potential employers from Villara, Royal electric, and ALCAL to the class to interview us.
This is a free program that certified us with OSHA 10. The last but not the least thing I liked was the tools they surprise us. They let us have a new set of tools for our new career. It was very warm and nice that they really care about us and want to help us to be success. What should I say? It is a great program that I have ever attended in my entire life. I appreciate and thank the foundation who provides me with this wonderful program. I recommend this program without reservation."

Spring 2020
The spring cohort of this bootcamp graduated mid-March! They had the opportunity to be on a live homebuilding site where they watched Concrete Value Corp pour foundations while some students had the chance to try it out themselves. The students also had a hands on demonstration with Fletcher Plumbing who brought in their tools to show what to expect in the plumbing trades.
